More on Red Light
Is Red Light Therapy HSA or FSA Eligible?
Red light devices frequently qualify for pre-tax HSA and FSA dollars. How eligibility is decided, what the saving is worth, and the December FSA deadline.

Red light therapy devices can be HSA and FSA eligible, and at Kove they frequently are. Eligibility is decided per purchase, not per product: an independent licensed provider reviews a two minute health survey at checkout and, when the purchase fits your health needs, issues the Letter of Medical Necessity the IRS requires. In a 30 percent tax bracket, that turns a $749 panel into roughly $524 of after-tax cost.
Why is red light therapy not automatically eligible?
HSA and FSA rules split purchases into two groups: items eligible outright, like bandages and thermometers, and items that become eligible when a licensed provider documents that they address a specific health need for you. Wellness devices, red light included, sit in the second group. That is not a loophole; it is how the IRS framework works, and it is why no store can honestly promise eligibility in advance.
How it works at Kove
- Add any device from the red light collection to your cart and choose Truemed at checkout.
- Complete the health survey. It takes about two minutes.
- An independent licensed provider reviews it. If the purchase is appropriate for your health needs, they issue a Letter of Medical Necessity.
- Pay directly with your HSA or FSA card, or pay normally and submit the letter with your receipt to your plan administrator for reimbursement.
Keep the letter with the receipt. If your plan ever asks for documentation, that pair is the answer.
What is the saving actually worth?
HSA and FSA dollars are set aside before tax, so the saving equals your marginal rate. Someone in a 30 percent combined bracket effectively pays about 70 cents on the dollar. Prices as of August 2026:
| Device | Price | Effective cost at a 30% bracket |
|---|---|---|
| MitoQUAD Belt | $349 | about $244 |
| MitoPRO+ 300+ | $369 | about $258 |
| MitoGLOW Face Mask | $499 | about $349 |
| MitoMAX 2.0 | $749 | about $524 |
| MitoPOD Wrap | $1,699 | about $1,189 |
Your exact rate and plan rules decide the real number, and Kove does not give tax advice. The larger the device, the more the pre-tax difference matters, which is why bigger purchases are exactly where the two minutes at checkout earn their keep.
FSA deadlines: the December question
FSA funds usually expire at the end of the plan year, with some plans allowing a short grace period or small carryover. HSA funds never expire. If you are holding an FSA balance in November or December, a device purchase is one of the more sensible ways to use money that would otherwise vanish, and it is the busiest season for exactly that reason.
What if the provider says no?
Then the purchase is not eligible for you right now, and the honest system worked as designed. You can still buy normally, and nothing about the survey commits you. Your plan administrator always has the final say either way.
Frequently asked questions
Is red light therapy FSA eligible without a letter?
Generally no. Wellness devices need a Letter of Medical Necessity under IRS rules, which is exactly what the Truemed flow at checkout arranges when the purchase fits your health needs.
Do I need to visit my own doctor first?
No. The review is done by an independent licensed provider based on your survey. No appointment, no separate visit.
Which red light devices qualify?
The whole red light range is included in our HSA/FSA eligible collection. Whether a given order qualifies is decided by the provider, based on your needs rather than the product model.
Can I get reimbursed for a device I already bought?
If your purchase qualified and you have the Letter of Medical Necessity and receipt, submit both to your plan administrator. Retroactive letters for past purchases are a plan-by-plan question your administrator answers.
Does using HSA or FSA change the price?
No. The price is the price, with free US shipping and the Price Beat guarantee; the saving comes from the tax treatment of the dollars you pay with.
The short version
Red light devices frequently qualify, the check takes two minutes at checkout, and the saving is your tax rate. Full detail, including HSA versus FSA differences and the deadline calendar, lives on the HSA and FSA page, and our red light guide covers choosing the device itself.
