Which brain and light device to choose

Compare on what it does (measures or delivers), wavelength, and session length.

Frequently asked questions

What are brain and light devices?
These devices deliver light, and in some cases sound, to support focus, relaxation, or wind-down as part of a daily routine. Some use near infrared light; others pair gentle flickering light with audio sessions. All are general wellness tools, not medical treatments.
What is photobiomodulation?
Photobiomodulation means applying specific wavelengths of light to the body. For the head, devices deliver near infrared light through the scalp or the nasal passage. Each product page lists its wavelengths under Specs, and our brain and light guide explains the mechanisms.
What is brainwave entrainment?
The measurable tendency of brain rhythms to follow rhythmic input. Light and sound devices pulse at target frequencies, around 10 Hz for relaxed states and 40 Hz for alert ones, to encourage that shift for the length of a session.
How often do people use them?
Typical sessions run 10 to 25 minutes, a few times per week. Many people schedule them before deep work or before bed, depending on the program. Manufacturers consistently point to 4 to 8 weeks of regular use before judging results.
Who should not use these devices?
Anyone with epilepsy or a history of seizures should avoid flashing-light devices entirely. Anyone managing a neurological or psychiatric condition should talk to their clinician before adding any of this.
How do I choose between them?
Each product family has a comparison section on its product pages. Broadly, NeuroVIZR pairs light and sound experiences, Vielight focuses on quiet near infrared sessions, the MitoMIND helmet covers the scalp hands-free, the Neuronic LIGHT and Neuradiant 1070 deliver 1070 nm near infrared across the whole head, and the Mendi headset trains focus with real-time feedback. The quiz can narrow it down.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Brain and light devices are among the categories that can qualify with a Letter of Medical Necessity, decided per order by an independent licensed provider through Truemed at checkout. See the HSA and FSA page.
