Brain Light Therapy Helmets Compared: Vielight, MitoMIND, Neuronic

BrainBy Kove Longevity

Vielight Neuro 4, MitoMIND, Neuronic LIGHT and Neuradiant 1070 side by side: wavelength, intranasal or not, control, warranty, price, and which one suits how you will use it.

Woman wearing the Neuronic LIGHT brain light helmet on a sofa at home

A brain light helmet shines near-infrared light through the scalp for a set number of minutes, hands-free, while you read or sit still. The idea is photobiomodulation: light at these wavelengths is absorbed by an enzyme in mitochondria, cytochrome c oxidase, and the research asks whether that changes how brain cells use energy. Four helmet families come up most often, and Kove carries all of them: Vielight Neuro 4, MitoMIND, Neuronic LIGHT and Neuronic Neuradiant 1070. They differ in wavelength, how the light reaches the head, how much control you get, and price. This guide puts them side by side so the choice comes down to how you will use one.

How the four helmets differ

Wavelength. Vielight and MitoMIND use 810 nm. Both Neuronic helmets use 1070 nm, a wavelength Neuronic chose for how far it reaches into tissue. There is no head-to-head trial of an 810 nm helmet against a 1070 nm helmet, so neither wavelength can be called better for the brain on current evidence. What the numbers tell you is how each brand designed its device.

How the light gets in. Vielight is the only family that builds an intranasal module, a small light that sits in the nostril, into every model, alongside its transcranial pads. MitoMIND offers a 1070 nm intranasal unit as an optional bundle. The Neuronic helmets are transcranial only, with LEDs spread across the whole scalp.

Control. Vielight Neuro 4 runs fixed 20-minute sessions at a set pulse rate: 10 Hz on the Alpha, 40 Hz on the Gamma, both on the Duo. MitoMIND has 6 presets and adjustable power and pulse. Neuronic LIGHT has 4 presets and a custom program through an app or the button on the helmet. The Neuradiant 1070 adds a touchscreen controller and splits the helmet into four quadrants you can set separately, which is the feature practitioners ask for.

Every helmet here ships free in the US and comes with a 60-day full refund at Kove: we email a prepaid return label, and there is no restocking fee. Vielight products also carry a 6 month guarantee on top of that: after the first 60 days, return it within six months of purchase for an 80% refund, even after use.

What the research supports

Brain photobiomodulation is an active research field with small studies, varied devices and varied protocols. Vielight has the longest published record of the four, summarised in what the Vielight studies show. Results from one device or protocol do not transfer automatically to another, and none of these helmets is cleared to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. They are general wellness devices. Read the evidence as a reason to try one carefully, not as a promise of a result.

Who should ask a clinician first

  • Anyone with a history of seizures, or an active brain bleed.
  • Anyone pregnant.
  • Anyone taking a medication that makes skin or eyes sensitive to light.
  • Anyone managing a neurological condition who hopes a helmet will help with it.

Kove does not provide medical advice; see the medical disclaimer.

Which helmet to buy

  • "I want the most-studied design": a Vielight Neuro 4. Choose the Gamma for daytime focus routines, the Alpha for evening wind-down, or the Duo for both.
  • "I want intranasal light included from day one": Vielight, any model.
  • "I want the lowest price for a full-scalp helmet": Neuronic LIGHT.
  • "I want presets plus fine control over power and pulse": MitoMIND.
  • "I work with a practitioner who sets my protocol": Neuronic Neuradiant 1070, for the quadrant control.
  • "I want the longest time to decide": any Vielight, for the 60-day full refund followed by the 6 month guarantee.

Single-device reviews go deeper: the Vielight Neuro Duo 4 review and the MitoMIND review. If light and sound sessions or neurofeedback suit you better than a helmet, compare the NeuroVIZR review and the Mendi headset review, or the wider guide to light and sound brain devices.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 810 nm and 1070 nm helmets?

They are two near-infrared wavelengths. Vielight and MitoMIND use 810 nm; Neuronic uses 1070 nm and cites deeper reach into tissue. No published trial compares an 810 nm helmet with a 1070 nm helmet directly, so the choice is about design, control and price rather than a proven difference in results.

Is intranasal light necessary?

No. It is a design choice. Vielight pairs an intranasal module with its transcranial pads to reach the underside of the brain; Neuronic covers the whole scalp instead. MitoMIND lets you add a 1070 nm intranasal unit as a bundle.

How long is a session?

Vielight Neuro 4 sessions are 20 minutes. MitoMIND runs 1 to 30 minutes. Neuronic LIGHT and Neuradiant run up to 30 minutes, at most an hour a day, with shorter limits at higher intensity.

Which brain light helmet is best?

The one that fits how you will use it. Vielight has the longest published record and the longest return window, Neuronic LIGHT is the lowest-priced full-scalp helmet, MitoMIND has the widest adjustment, and Neuradiant has per-quadrant control for practitioner protocols.

Can I return a helmet if it does not suit me?

Yes. Every helmet on this page has a 60-day full refund at Kove with a prepaid return label and no restocking fee. Vielight models add a 6 month guarantee for an 80% refund after the first 60 days.

Can I pay with HSA or FSA?

Brain light helmets are among the devices that can qualify, with a Letter of Medical Necessity decided per order by an independent licensed provider through Truemed at checkout. Details are on the HSA and FSA page.

Do these helmets treat a condition?

No. They are general wellness devices, not cleared to diagnose, treat or prevent disease. If you are managing a condition, talk to your clinician.

Brain light helmets, in brief

Two wavelengths, two ways in, and four levels of control. Vielight brings intranasal light, fixed sessions and the longest published record; MitoMIND brings presets and adjustment; Neuronic LIGHT brings full-scalp coverage at the lowest price; Neuradiant brings quadrant control. Every helmet ships free, comes with a 60-day full refund and carries the Price Beat guarantee. The full range is in the brain light collection.
