Why the tar gets trapped before the carbon
Smoke brings three separate problems: sticky tar, gases and odor, and fine particles. Tar would clog a carbon bed quickly, so a 570 sq in TarBarrier prefilter catches it first. That leaves the 26 lb carbon free to adsorb the gases, with a HEPA-Barrier filter last for particles. The order is why it keeps working under heavy smoke.

A dedicated TarBarrier prefilter traps sticky tar and resin before they reach the carbon bed, which adsorbs smoke gases and odor, followed by a HEPA-Barrier stage that captures 95% of airborne particles down to 1 micron. The sequence is what makes it last against smoke. The DLX tier adds carbon capacity for heavier, more persistent loads.
Choose 600 for spaces up to roughly 2,000 square feet, or 700 for up to roughly 2,500. Built in an all-steel housing with no off-gassing plastic, made in Canada, and engineered to run continuously. It belongs to the Elevate layer of the Kove stack: the environment you recover in.
