New furniture, flooring, cabinetry, and paint release formaldehyde and other VOCs for months, sometimes years. Standard carbon helps with general odor, but formaldehyde is a small molecule that needs a specifically treated carbon to capture it. These purifiers use carbon formulated for formaldehyde and off-gassing, for newly built, renovated, or freshly furnished spaces.
